Movies | ‘Coco’ Review

It’s been a long wait to finally watch Pixar’s Coco, a movie which was released in the US all of three months ago, but boy… was it worth it.

I knew to expect great things – this IS a Pixar film after all, known for its strikingly beautiful animation and in-depth, emotionally driven storytelling. My favourite Pixar movies include the Toy Story trilogy, Inside Out and Up just to name a few, but ever since finally getting to see Coco at the cinema, I think I do indeed have a Continue reading “Movies | ‘Coco’ Review”

Movies | ‘Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi’ Review

It’s the movie everyone has been anticipating for the last couple of years since Episode VII. Sure, we had Rogue One hit cinemas last year, but we all eagerly anticipated what was next in store for newcomers Rey, Finn, BB-8 and pals. However, The Last Jedi is a new chapter that has ultimately divided opinion. Has the hype lived up to it’s multi-billion franchise name?

(I’m writing this review a few weeks after release so I can discuss my opinion on every detail, including spoilers. If you wish to avoid, I suggest you attend the nearest screening, then come straight back here!)

Okay, I’m gonna be serious now. The Last Jedi is my favourite Star Wars film of the whole franchise. Why? Continue reading “Movies | ‘Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi’ Review”

My Favourite Christmas Movies (That Are More Scary Than Jolly)

Truth be told, when it comes to movies, I’m definitely more of a Halloween fan than Christmas. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the holiday season, or even watch a festive film or two. In fact, some of my all-time favourite movies are technically Christmas movies. However, you won’t find Home Alone or It’s A Wonderful Life on this list. And personally, while they’re fun to watch, A Muppet Christmas Carol and Elf are a bit too overrated for me *suddenly overhears the souls of hundreds crushing into pieces of mince pies*. So, now I’ve narrowed that down, what are my top 5 favourite Christmas flicks? Continue reading “My Favourite Christmas Movies (That Are More Scary Than Jolly)”

“Make It Pink, Blue, Green!” Pencil Sketch

I’m finally back at the art after many months! It was nice having some time yesterday to just sit down and draw. These sort of sketches never take me that long anyway – I can have the mainframe sketched within 5 minutes, then I spend some time adding detail.

I love Aurora, but I’ve surprisingly never Continue reading ““Make It Pink, Blue, Green!” Pencil Sketch”

Movies | ‘Justice League’ Review

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of DC Comics. I have several issues old and new in my collection, including some from as far back as the 40s. But I’m not just a fan of the comics – I adore the TV shows, animation, video games, and yes, even the new DCEU movies. Man Of Steel was, in my eyes, a refreshing reboot that incorporated what it is to be a superhero in this day in age. Are they worshipped, or are they feared? Are they a god-sent miracle, or a threat to modern society? Not only did it raise some great points of storytelling, Man Of Steel had plenty of action and origin in equal servings. The follow up sequel, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, just got even better by adding more famous heroes into the mix, as well as even more infamous villains, and an exciting climatic battle. (You can read what I thought of Suicide Squad here, and the more recent Wonder Woman here). So, long story short, I LOVED Justice League. But why, you ask? Well, let me tell you right here… Continue reading “Movies | ‘Justice League’ Review”

Movies | “IT” Review

“We ALL float down here…”
If you grew up watching all the big cult classics or reading horror fiction, you’ll be more than familiar with that infamous line spoken by Pennywise The Dancing Clown in Stephen King’s IT. When the original 1986 novel was transformed into the successful 1990 television mini-series, it became mainstream pop culture, and the main reason lots of folks now commonly suffer from Coulrophobia (myself included). So, what can we expect from IT awakening from it’s slumber 27 years later? Does IT live up to the sheer terror we experienced through it’s other forms of media? Is IT a shot-for-shot carbon copy, or can we expect something entirely fresh? Continue reading “Movies | “IT” Review”
