Review | ‘Astromech’ Irregular Choice Star Wars Pumps

It’s been a whole month since I posted my Star Wars Merch Wish List on May 4th. Can you believe how quickly the time has gone?! If you’ve read my Wish List, you would’ve seen that I included this exact pair of Irregular Choice R2-D2 pumps on there as one of my most desired-for items of Star Wars merch!

This is not the first time Irregular Choice have released a Star Wars shoe collection; Phase 1 was released prior to The Force Awakens hitting cinemas everywhere and the designs featured all the wonderful characters from the original trilogy, from C-3PO to Chewbacca to Darth Vader himself. However, Phase 2 has brought forward even more variety of shoe styles to choose from, and even more beautiful colours.

imageI’m a big fan of sparkly shoes and the cute stubborn droid R2, so I instantly loved the Astromech pumps with R2’s head embroidered on the front of the pair and silver glitter on the sides. At £109, they’re also among the cheapest of the collection, which ranges all the way up to £300. Phase 2 was initially released online on 27th May, but, as always when a limited edition/popular product is released online, it’s a big gamble whether you’ll actually manage to get them or not! Unfortunately, I missed out on purchasing them on the Irregular Choice official website in my Size 36, so my only chance would be to purchase them in my local Norwich IC store, Imelda’s Shoe Boutique, on the 1st June, which was the store release date.

imageIt was almost 4pm by the time I reached Imelda’s (the collection has been released in stores at midday), and Phase 2 had already been very popular, as always with a limited edition products. The last time I was at Imelda’s, I was purchasing my IC Alice In Wonderland heels which sold out super quickly both in-store and online (you can read my AIW review here)! I was glad that I didn’t buy online as Imelda’s had my size in the pumps and I really wanted to make sure they were actually comfortable before parting with my cash. Sometimes I find pumps especially uncomfortable if they’re harder on the back of the heel and they often can rub on my feet as I walk. However, Irregular Choice shoes are always made lovely, and the Astromech pumps are no different, they fit my size feet perfectly and they’re very soft and snug! The shop staff were incredibly helpful and let me try different sizes for comparison and let me have a little walkabout to make sure they were just right. Upon purchase, I also got a big, stylish IC bag for free, and a little leaflet detailing the history of Irregular Choice shoes through the years – thanks Imelda’s Shoe Boutique!

I love the amount of detail that goes into creating these shoes. Aside from the obvious R2 embroidered design on the front, there’s also the Star Wars logo embroidered on the back. The insides of the pumps are iridescent purple and look like a galaxy far, far away… Speaking on which, if you look on the bottom of these pumps, you’ll see Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi in a poster-style print! In conclusion, the Astromech pumps were a brilliant purchase, and I simply cannot wait to wear them. If you’d like your own pair, there are still some limited styles and sizes available online and in select IC stores, so make sure to check them out. May the force be with you!
