Rapunzel Inspired Cosplay Make-Up Tutorial

So this is something I’ve been asked to do for ages now… a cosplay make-up tutorial! I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity, so when the lovely Hannah from Courage & Kindness kindly asked if I would collaborate with her, I jumped at the chance! Today’s tutorial is all about how to transform yourself into the pretty Rapunzel! It’s perfect for cosplay/Disney-bound purposes, or if you’d just like to try a fresh new look for a day-to-day routine!

My Rapunzel make-up look is heavily inspired by the face character from the Disney Parks, which includes lavender eyeshadow and lovely raspberry pink lips. I use Kryolan products for every single step; you can use a different brand of you prefer, but I personally find Kryolan’s products the best!

• Assortment Of Brushes (Foundation, Flat Round Concealer, Powder, Flat Angled Eyebrow, Blusher, Eyeshadow, Pointed Eyeliner, Lip)
• Eyelash Curlers

STEP BY STEP

1. Start with a fresh, clean, make-up free base. If your skin is dry, apply moisturiser beforehand and let it sink in for a few minutes before applying make-up.

2. Apply your base foundation with a foundation brush. Rapunzel has light, warm, peachy skin, but make sure your base foundation blends with your natural skin tone and, most importantly, looks natural!

3. After you’ve evenly applied your base foundation, use a concealer brush to apply light tone concealer on your under-eye area to conceal any darkness; if your concealer has a pink tone to it, this is great to apply to any dark areas! Conceal any blemishes with a concealer that matches your foundation.

4. The step everyone fears – contouring! Please don’t fear, it’s easier than it looks. Remember, you shade to withdraw features, and highlight to bring features forward, thus attracting the main attention. To give Rapunzel an animated look, shade using a contour cream a couple of shades darker than your foundation base. I shade my temples, across the bridge of the nose, down the sides of the nose, under the nose tip, under the cheekbones, around the jawline, and under my chin. To highlight, use a contour cream a couple of shades lighter than your base tone. I highlight my brow bone, cheekbones, top of my nose (in between the brows), tip of my nose, either side of tip, my cupid’s bow, the crease under my bottom lip, and the part of your cheeks where you get shadows when you smile (see photos below for better reference!). Contour will vary for everyone depending on your facial features, so just find what you feel works for you personally – it may take a little experimenting, but you’ll get there in the end, I promise. Just remember – practise makes perfect!

5. Once you’ve applied your contour, use your foundation brush to blend the sharp lines in until it appears seamless with your base tone, but is still noticeable to get the illusion of sculpted features. Using a powder brush, apply loose colourless powder over your whole face.

6. Apply pink blush to the apples of your cheeks and use circular strokes blend upwards and outwards.

7. Fill in your eyebrows using a flat angled eyebrow brush. Rapunzel’s eyebrows are light brown, and not very thick, so just gently fill them in so they look neat and tidy.

8. Onto the fun part – eyeshadow! Sweep a light lavender colour over your eyelids, and shade a darker purple in the crease/socket line to give your eyes contour and make them appear larger and more animated.

9. Eyeliner time! Use a small, pointed eyeliner brush to apply black cream/liquid liner to your top lids, creating a small upwards cat flick at the outer corners. Apply liner underneath your lower lash line on the outer corners only.

10. Curl your lashes, then apply a couple of coats of black mascara to your upper lashes.

11. Apply long, fanned out style strip eyelashes to the upper lash line using eyelash glue. Rapunzel has the largest eyes of any Disney princess, so the bigger your eyes look, the better! Finish off your eye look by applying mascara to your lower lashes.

12. For your lips, apply a matte raspberry pink colour lipstick to your lips using a lip brush, accentuating the dip in the cupid’s bow. Finish with clear gloss.

13. For a last optional finishing touch, I apply a little bit of light shimmer highlighter to my brow bone, tip of my nose, upper middle of my nose bridge, and of course, the cheekbones! If you don’t have light, natural freckles and would like to add some, use a stippling sponge and a very light brown greasepaint to gently stipple a few across the nose. Powder to set.

14. Pop on your wig and costume, and you’re done! I also add green contacts for movie accurate eye colour. Equally, you can just style your own hair and thrown on a pretty Rapunzel Disney-bound too… the choice is all yours.
