MCM has been on my cosplay to-do list for YEARS. Friday 26th May 2017 came the day when I FINALLY discovered just exactly what MCM London Comic Con has to offer… And it was everything I ever dreamed of, and more!
Myself and my boyfriend Rupert only went for the day, so of course, we didn’t get around to everything. But we did cover the length of two massive halls of the ExCel building where the event takes place for over the whole weekend. The entry availability was almost at full capacity, meaning there was a huge turnout, with many folk opting to cosplay, much like myself!
I chose to cosplay my favourite DC superheroine for this event – Kara Danvers, aka the one and only Supergirl! I love the tv series so much, and this costume was perfect seeing as it’s lightweight and ideal for the active environment. The weather was very, very hot, so luckily I didn’t overheat either!
We spent most of the day wandering around exploring the many, many stalls and wonderful displays. There were celebrities signing and doing photo ops, but not as many as there would be the following days, so we didn’t worry about any of that this time, but it’s definitely something I would like to experience at future cons! You’ll see most of what amazing products the stalls in my video here.
Everyone we met were so friendly and welcoming. One wonderful tv/movie digital artist gave me one of his signed Supergirl prints completely free, just because I was, in his words “the best Supergirl I’ve seen all day“. How sweet is that?! We also got quite a lot of freebies from the EMP stall just for entering their competition, it was great to finally meet them as I love their merch clothing so much. At the DC Comics area, I bumped into both members of Team Arrow UK and The Justice League Of England, with whom I got given the awesome opportunity to perform in an upcoming video for and get lots of super cool photos fighting my fellow heroes. Their costumes were absolutely incredible so make sure you check both groups out!
I must admit, my favourite area was definitely the kawaii stalls! This included Japanese inspired UK based companies such as Cute Japanese Fashion, Dreamy Bows, and Tofu Cute. I could’ve easily have bought all the adorable plushies, clothes, bags, candy, just everything… It was the perfect pastel heaven!
I loved visiting some of the big companies such as Square Enix, PS4, Funko, Universal etc… They all had some great products on show. It’s also brilliant to see so many independent sellers showcasing some very unique items too that you wouldn’t necessarily find anywhere else.
I’ve still not entirely calmed down from the buzz that visiting MCM gave me, and it’s definitely taken time for everything to sink in. We’re hoping to visit for the whole weekend in October, so I’m gonna start saving up right this second and I’ll hopefully be taking even more cosplays too!
Did you visit May’s MCM Expo? What was your favourite part? Let me know in the comments!
