Beauty | Minnie Manicure Nail Art Tutorial

Having perfectly manicured nails is an essential part of every lady’s life, but for us Disney fans, we like ours to be a touch more magical – by adding Minnie ears! This is one of my favourite designs to create; it’s both fun and simple to do. I used Nail Varnish for this tutorial, but you can use Gel Polish instead if you prefer for longer-lasting results.

Nail Polish/Gel Polish – Whichever you prefer working with for base colour. You’ll need a nude base colour for this design.
Nail Art Pens/ Water-based Acrylic Paint – Again, whichever you prefer, but I personally recommend that you don’t use Nail Art Pens with Gel Polish, only use them with Nail Polish. Colours you’ll need are Black, Red, and White.
Nail Art Brushes – These are to be used with the acrylic paint. You should ideally have the following four brushes; small flat brush, small thin brush, medium thin brush and a long thin brush. Use the flat brush and/or the small thin brush for painting the base shapes, and the medium thin and long thin brushes for more intricate parts of the design.

File, shape and prepare your nails using your preferred medium as usual (either normal nail varnish or gel polish) then apply a nude colour as the base. Apply a couple of coats. If you’re using gel like I am, remember to wipe away the sticky layer using finishing wipe on a lint-free pad before applying a nail art design.

I used all water-based acrylic paint from this point on, but you can use varnish-based nail art pens if you’ve used nail varnish for your base. Start by painting on a red bow shape in the middle of each nail.

Once the bow is dry, paint the black “ear” shapes on the sides of the bows as pictured above. Don’t worry about not getting an accurate circle, you’re aiming for semi-circles instead.

Your bows should be dry by now, so you can apply white polka dots to the bows. If you happen to own a dotting tool, use it, as it will make the dotting process easier! Again, don’t worry if you polka dots aren’t perfect, you can always use your red paint to neaten them up afterwards. Once the whole design is dry on each nail, apply top coat to finish and seal your design. If you’ve gotten this far… Congratulations! Have fun flaunting your fabulous new Minnie Manicure!
