Beauty | Alice In Wonderland Nail Art Tutorial

With an upcoming Disneyland Paris trip in 6 days and Tim Burton’s Alice Through The Looking Glass being released this month, what better idea than to create an Alice In Wonderland themed design for a tutorial! I decided to make the design summery with pastel pink and blue as the base, and the only other three colours involved are white, black and yellow-gold.

PRODUCTS YOU’LL NEED
Nail Polish/Gel Polish – Whichever you prefer working with for base colour.
Nail Art Pens/ Water-based Acrylic Paint – Again, whichever you prefer, but I personally recommend that you don’t use Nail Art Pens with Gel Polish, only use them with Nail Polish.
Nail Art Brushes – These are to be used with the acrylic paint. You should ideally have the following four brushes; small flat brush, small thin brush, medium thin brush and a long thin brush. Use the flat brush and/or the small thin brush for painting the silhouette base shapes, and the medium thin and long thin brushes for more intricate parts of the design.

STEP ONE
File, shape and prepare your nails using your preferred medium as usual (either normal nail varnish or gel polish) then apply the pink and blue colour as base, alternating between the two colours for every nail. Apply a couple of coats. If you’re using gel like I am, remember to wipe away the sticky layer using finishing wipe on a lint-free pad before applying a nail art design.

STEP TWO
I used all water-based acrylic paint from this point on, but you can use varnish-based nail art pens if you’ve used nail varnish for your base. Paint on the character’s base silhouette shapes as pictured. There’s Alice on the thumb nail, two playing card guards on forefinger and middle finger, white rabbit on ring finger, and three diamonds on the pinky. Don’t worry if you mess up using water-based acrylics; just use water on a lint-free wipe to wipe away the mistake, and start again! I’ve done different designs for Alice and the white rabbit on each hand, but you can keep the design the same if you find it easier to do so.

STEP THREE
Add in the character’s smaller details on their silhouettes, such as the playing card symbols, Alice’s hair colour, and the white rabbit’s fur. Use medium and long thin brushes to get the details smaller in size. Don’t worry if you’re not got the steadiest hands as you can alternate between the colours to neaten up the design at any point.

STEP FOUR
Add outside details: white dots around the edges, and playing card symbols on the playing card nails. Once dry, apply top coat to finish and seal your design. If you’ve gotten this far… Congratulations! Have fun flaunting your curious, mad new nail art!
